About Dietech
What is Dietech?
Dietech is dietary management and clinical nutrition software for hospitals, nursing homes, and long-term care facilities. It covers food service operations (menu cycles, production, tray tickets, kitchen display, purchasing, point of sale) and clinical nutrition (diet orders, allergies, nutritional assessments, weights, intake, tube feeding, plan of care) in one system. It is made by PSI Buffalo, Inc. in Williamsville, New York.
Who makes Dietech?
PSI Buffalo, Inc., based at 6400 Sheridan Drive, Suite 112, Williamsville, New York. Dietech is listed in the PointClickCare Marketplace as a partner application. You can reach the company on (716) 565-9400 or at [email protected].
Is Dietech only for nursing homes, or do hospitals use it too?
Both. The long-term care side covers dining room service, menu cycles, resident preferences, weights, and state survey documentation. The hospital side covers room service ordering, tray line kitchen display, positive patient identification at the bedside, cafeteria point of sale, and HL7 or FHIR integration with the EHR. The underlying system is the same; what differs is which parts a facility turns on and the vocabulary the workflows use.
What is the difference between Dietech Lite, Plus, and Production?
Dietech Lite covers the essentials for small facilities: meal ticketing, resident preferences, allergy management, diet orders, and simple reporting, at $80 per month. Dietech Plus adds menu cycle management, tube feeding protocols, weight management, nutritional analysis, and production tallies for mid-size facilities. Dietech Production adds EMR and EHR integration, selective menus, eTableServ bedside ordering, nutritional assessments, and multi-facility support with no resident limit. Production is the most widely deployed of the three, followed by Plus.
Pricing, implementation, and support
How much does Dietech cost?
Dietech Lite is $80 per month. Dietech Plus and Dietech Production are priced according to facility size and which modules you need, so they are quoted rather than listed. Training, onboarding, and data migration are included rather than charged as a separate implementation fee. Contact sales on (716) 565-9400 for a quote against your bed count and requirements.
Is there a free trial?
No. Dietary software touches live diet orders and allergy records, so a self-serve trial on real patient data is not something we think is responsible to offer. Instead we run a demonstration using your own menu cycle, your diets, and your tray ticket layout, so you evaluate it against how your department actually works rather than against sample data.
How long does implementation take?
It depends on which program you are implementing and how much existing data has to come across. A small facility on Dietech Lite is a much shorter project than a hospital on Dietech Production with an HL7 interface, because the interface work involves your EHR team and their schedule. We scope this honestly during the sales process rather than quoting a number that fits every facility.
Can you migrate our data from our current system?
Yes, and migration is included rather than billed separately. What can be brought across depends on what your current system will export. Resident records, diets, allergies, preferences, and recipes are the usual candidates. We look at an actual export from your system during the sales process so you know what will and will not transfer before you commit.
What support is included?
Training and onboarding are included with every program. Dietech Lite includes email support, Plus adds priority phone support, and Production includes a dedicated account manager. Support is one of the things customers most often single out in their reviews, which you can read on our testimonials section.
Integration, devices, and security
Which EMR and EHR systems does Dietech integrate with?
Dietech integrates with long-term care EMR systems including PointClickCare and MatrixCare, and is listed in the PointClickCare Marketplace. For hospitals it supports HL7 messaging (ADT for admissions, transfers and discharges, plus order and result messages) and FHIR R4, including a SMART on FHIR launch handler and USCDI v3 data classes, for EHR environments including Epic and Cerner PowerChart. Any specific interface depends on your own EHR configuration, so it is worth a technical call rather than a yes or no answer.
What hardware and browsers does Dietech need?
Dietech runs in a modern browser, so it works on Windows terminals, iPads and iPhones, Android phones and tablets, touchscreen point-of-sale units, and wall-mounted kitchen displays. It installs to the home screen as a web application, so there is no app store download and nothing to package through mobile device management. Barcode scanning uses the device camera, so a tablet can act as the scanner.
Does Dietech work offline?
The application shell and fonts are cached, so the interface loads rather than showing a blank page when hospital wifi is unstable. Live data still requires a connection. Dietech holds clinical diet orders and allergy records, and serving stale diet information from a cache would be the wrong trade to make for convenience.
How does Dietech handle PHI and security?
Dietech holds protected health information, including diet orders, allergies, weights, and clinical assessments, so access is controlled by user and role, and activity is logged. Specific security, hosting, and business associate agreement details are covered during procurement, where your compliance team can review them properly. Our privacy policy sets out how information is handled.
Can one organisation run several facilities on Dietech?
Yes. Dietech Production supports multi-facility operation with corporate dashboards that report across sites and drill down into any individual facility. Purchasing supports corporate contracts and management company structures. Staff who work across sites can have two facilities open at once on the same device, which is deliberate: an installed application has no tab strip, so switching would otherwise mean signing out and back in.
